Thanksgiving parade @NY

Macys Thanksgiving day parade...Got up at 4:30 AM on Thursday , started of to New York....
It was snowing in NJ....I was seeing snow fall for the first time in life.....Cool......

Reached NY...drank fresh juice as breakfast...I and Siva were at 59th street to watch the famous parade !!

Giant balloons started their way .A few attractions were Chicken Little, caterpillar, Dora, Humpty Dumpty, Animal planet!!!

Few kids, sitting at parent’s shoulders were excited and calling out the names of the character balloons. I could figure out the names only from these cute little genius :-) .

Cast Away

Today was another day...had my dinner early...nothing else to do..so why not watch a movie. We decided to watch Cast Away....

Cast Away- Its a story of persistent hope, adventure, spirit to live!!!

Chuck (Tom Hanks) ,A FedEx System Engineer,works round the clock, giving more importance to live and die by time. He gets on a plane for work, promises her lover that he would be right back soon. The real story starts now, when his plane crashes in the sea. He somehow manages to land on a deserted island…The scenes especially after the plane crash- floating across the ocean; violent storm and roaring thunder were really amazing.

Once after he lands on that island, he seeks help for the first few days, but nothing turns right for him. As days turn by, He finds ways to live and he needs to –by consuming coconut, crab and fishes. FedEx packages that floated to island help him considerably. Few to mention-The skater shoes to cut, the net on a beautiful dress to catch fishes , collecting rain water to drink. He relentlessly works to create fire with things he have. He finds a companion-Wilson, a volleyball

1500 days pass by-Now he has his own ways of leading his life until one day, he finds a way to escape. He builds a boat, starts his journey and escapes.

Things are not the same in his homeland, where his lover is married, has her own family. She is torn between her lover (who was considered dead) and her family. But he accepts she needs to go back to her family .

He is ready to accept the life as it comes- the greatest lesson he has ever learnt from his experiences.

The silence in the film once after he lands in the island is not boring, but the scenes are too lengthy.The silent conclusion of the film is too empty!!!


Needless to say, Tom Hanks has acted out well

My weekend

This weekend...i had a new experience .....for the first time....i played snooker!!!
i went with my husband and his friend...we had a great time there...they both were gud players (as far as I know :))...they taught me how to play....
its a nice game...u need to know karom to do a gud aiming...i m not going to bore u with snooker rules....(though i don't know the rules ).....we played around 2 hrs ..i enjoied...got a book to read more about it...hope to play the game well soonn!!!!!

Sunday ...a 'somberi' sunday.....called my parents and MIL, saw film Chicken Little after a great vegetarian lunch at Qdoba-a mexican grill (veggie need to try this places!!).....

The fascinating part of the film was the chicken and the 'fish out of water' characters...though the animation was not too gud (that was my husband's review), it was ok for me..i liked it...maybe i have not seen better animation films yet ...

I liked 'chicken little' telling to itself "today is a new day" and "u r going to make it"

After the movie, we came home...i was ready for another movie....I watched "Gods must be crazy". The story is abt a 'bushman' in the deep Kalahari desert. He sees the most fascinating thing in his life -a Coke bottle that fell from an aeroplane.!! He takes it back to his family, and they use it for many tasks. Soon his family start to fight over it, so he decides to go the end of the world to return it to the God-who he thinks gave it to them. His journey to the 'end of the world' was shown in really funny situations and scenes.

IThen I went on to watch Part II of the film ...which I liked the most!! In this movie, the bushman's (xixo) daughter and son get separated from their family while there were checking out a truck- something they were seeing for first time in their life. They both enjoy their trip in the truck, which also has a trailer contained full of water. They have not seen that much water in their entire life . Now xixo starts to search for his lost kids. Being a bushman, who are best trackers in world, he sets out following their foot prints to the truck, and follows the truck tire marks towards his children. Meanwhile a professor of law from New York (heroine) and a zoology professor (hero) gets lost in the desert jungle full of wild animals when their glider goes down in a storm.... and they are determined to get out. Now the movie shows the hardships everyone face in reaching their goal in a very humorous way ......enjoied a lot

Few things about bushmen & african desert I came to know from this film!!!!

• A group of ppl -bushmen - live in deeper parts of Kalahari in Africa. They know how to survive in the desert without water...
• Bushmen are one of the best trackers in the world!!!
• Their principle- "they own nothing"
• rhino will extinguish fire whenever it finds one!!!

Diwali sweets- Mission 3- Thattai - Result failure

Though my hubby helped, mission oothalllll

me hurraying even after mission failure

it came out thick!!!!

Diwali sweets-Mission-2-Thenkulal

Ingredients: 2 cups Rice flour, 1/4 cup uradh dhal flour, cummin-2tsp, oil-1tsp, salt-2tsp
Special Tools : Thenkuzhal Press from India

Procedure:
Add salt, cummin seeds to the flours and mix them well and make a dough with enough hot water. While mixing it add a tsp of hot oil.

Make a ball from the dough and press it through the thenkuzhal press in the hot oil and deep fry them till they are golden brown.

Remove and drain it, in a pan with paper towel.

The fried "ThenKuzhal" is now ready to eat.

Diwali sweets-Mission 1-Omapodi

Mix kadalai maavu (besan gram flour) and aarisi mavu (rice flour) in ratio of 8:1 .Mix salt and add water to make it a paste















Put this in a "acchu" with small holes and squeez in circular forms in the oil and fry till crispy.Drain oil in paper and break into pieces
